SAN MARCOS, Texas — San Marcos EMS officially began service on Oct. 1 as the city’s third emergency service, joining the San Marcos Police Department and San Marcos Fire Department. Many of the paramedics and EMTs staffing the new department are familiar faces who have already been serving the community.

The milestone builds on more than four decades of emergency medical service in San Marcos, with officials crediting the professionals of San Marcos-Hays County EMS for building that foundation and the members of San Marcos EMS for carrying it forward.

City officials said the focus throughout the transition has been continuity of care, with residents able to continue counting on trained medical professionals, strong clinical standards and reliable 911 response.
