WOODRIDGE, Ill. — A Geneva man was ticketed for causing a three-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon on I-88 in Lisle that resulted in 11 injuries, police said.

Jonathan Weiser, 28, was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and speeding, Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Susan Ewald said. She said Weiser was among the eight adults and three children who suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the wreck that occurred about 3:55 p.m.

Ewald said Weiser was driving solo in a black 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix west on I-88 near Route 53 when he lost control and rear-ended a 2004 Chevrolet pickup truck with a 35-year-old Warrenville man behind the wheel. The pickup then went from the far left lane to the right lane, where it smacked into a white 2011 Toyota Sienna eight-passenger minivan driven by a 39-year-old Romeoville man.

After striking the Sienna, the Chevy truck rolled over and came to a rest on its roof, said Ewald.

Ewald said three children and four adults were riding in the Sienna. There were a driver and two passengers in the Chevrolet pickup. Keith Stegman, a battalion chief with the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District, said two of the injured were taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and the other nine to Edward Hospital in Naperville.

Stegman said eight ambulances were needed to take the injured to the hospitals. He said one westbound lane at the Route 53 bridge was open and three were closed while rescue personnel worked the scene for about 30 minutes.

Assisting Lisle-Woodridge in bringing the injured to the hospitals were ambulance crews from the Naperville, Wheaton, Lombard, Downers Grove, Oak Brook, York Center and Warrenville fire departments.
