FLINT, Mich. — The city of Flint has added a fourth ambulance and a new fire truck to its Fire Department fleet.
Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley announced the additions in a news conference on Friday, March 6 , and said the ambulance service that started in 2024 has already made more than 900 runs so far this year.

Flint Fire Chief Theron Wiggins said the new $1.2 million fire engine will improve the department’s response ability and the new ambulance will put a third rig on the street around the clock.
The new ambulance was purchased with $202,576 in funds from the city’s national opioid settlements.
Flint put its own ambulances into service for the first time in more than 20 years on Oct. 1, 2024, using the Fire Department to cut down on what officials have said were unacceptable wait times for emergency help in the city.
The new ambulance unveiled on Friday afternoon will allow the city to keep one rig in reserve in case another is taken off the road for maintenance or repairs.
