BEACON FALLS, Conn. — A Connecticut ambulance caught fire Monday morning while transporting a patient to the hospital.
The Beacon Falls ambulance was carrying a patient experiencing breathing problems when a fire started in the engine compartment, sending smoke into the cab, according to WTNH.
EMS providers and good Samaritans helped remove the patient while a fire engine was en route; the patient was not injured and was later transported in another ambulance, according to Beacon Hose Co. #1. The fire company said none of the first responders or bystanders were injured in the incident.
The agency wrote that “some of our expensive equipment” was salvaged from the ambulance, but that the rig was destroyed, leaving the company with only one remaining ambulance. Mutual aid assistance has been arranged to help with coverage as the company works to acquire another rig.
