RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh man is charged with misuse of the 911 system after allegedly claiming he had Ebola to get an ambulance faster.
According to an arrest warrant, 42-year-old Paul Derome Avens wanted to go to to WakeBrook, a treatment center specializing in mental and substance abuse problems.
In a conversation with a 911 operator, Avens’ answers to questions forced EMS to stage “an unnecessary Ebola response,” according to the warrant.
