LIVINGSTON COUNTY, N.Y. — A university student accused of stealing an ambulance appeared in court Thursday for a bench trial.

Colin Dahlberg, 23, faces multiple charges stemming from an ambulance theft on Dec. 5, 2015.

EMTs were working on an intoxicated patient when Dahlberg jumped into the unoccupied ambulance and drove it about a half mile away.

According to the Democrat and Chronicle, the student said “God bless America” into the ambulance radio shortly before he abandoning the vehicle and leading police on a brief foot chase.

The student was caught with a blood alcohol level of 0.2, which is high enough to be charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated. Dahlberg is also accused of possession of stolen property, grand larceny, obstructing emergency medical services and obstructing governmental administration.

He has pleaded not guilty to these charges.
