PARMA, Ohio — A resident and dog are recovering after being saved from a house fire in Parma Heights by the fire department ambulance crew and a neighboring assistant fire chief. 

Firefighters responded to 7093 York Road for a house fire with a report of a person trapped inside, WKYC reported. The crew of Parma Medic 3 and Middleburg Heights Fire Department Assistant Chief Higginbotham were first to arrive and quickly rescued the trapped resident through a bedroom window.

The Parma Fire Department posted on Facebook that the fire broke out in the basement, leading to heavy smoke filling the home. After being rescued, the victim was transported to a hospital and listed in stable condition.

During a search, a dog was located and rescued from the window. EMS gave the dog oxygen and was reported to be in stable condition.
