HOPKINS, Minn. — Assistant Chief James “Jimmy” Scanlon, 38, died Friday after responding to a fire alarm at an apartment complex on Wednesday, according to the U.S. Fire Administration.
On Thursday, as he was leaving his other job, he began to feel unwell and pulled his vehicle to the side of the road.
EMS providers treated him for cardiac arrest and transported him to a hospital, where he died of a heart attack.
He was a 14-year member of the Hopkins Fire Department and had served with the Hopkins Police Department for 16 years, according to the fire department.
The Bloomington Police Department said he also worked as a dispatcher.
“Please keep Chief Scanlon and his family in your thoughts and prayers,” the fire department said in a Facebook post.
