OKLAHOMA CITY — Firefighters rescued a woman who was trapped in her SUV after driving into floodwaters.

ABC News reported that the unidentified woman’s GMC Yukon was stuck against a guardrail after she drove over a spillway into the flood.

“My car is starting to fill up with water,” she told 911 dispatchers. “And there’s so much flooding. I don’t even know why I chose to do this. This is stupid. I didn’t think it was as bad as it is.”

Firefighters deployed their dive team, who used a boat to rescue the driver.

The rescue team tied a tether system around a tree above the water line, and five firefighters held the line as two other rescuers made their way to the vehicle. Corporal Joe Childers and Lt. Cort Smith successfully pulled the woman to safety from the driver’s side window.
