FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Missing firefighter-paramedic Nicole Mittendorff called in sick before she disappeared, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department Chief Richard Bowers said Wednesday.
WUSA9.com reported that Chief Bowers asked the community to continue to help and provide information on the case. The community gathered together, along with fire and rescue members, for a vigil to “help bring Nicole home.”
Police officials said they’re still working to establish a timeline of Mittendorff’s whereabouts between the last time her family saw her on Wednesday and when her car was found on Saturday.
There is still no evidence to suggest anything suspicious about Mittendorff’s disappearance, state police said.
“We remain hopeful and we continue to pray for Nicole and her family,” Chief Bowers said. “We are always called to help in this type of situation and now we are relaying on others to help Nicole.”
Red ribbons and pins were distributed as a sign of hope. State police have received more than 100 tips regarding the investigation.
