1-year-old dies from injuries sustained in buggy accident

Katie, 1, was thrown from the buggy after the horse became spooked and took off; she suffered severe head and internal injuries

FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. — A young Amish girl has died as a result of injuries suffered in a buggy accident Thursday.

State police said Jacob Fisher was unhooking a horse from a buggy containing his wife Ruth and their two daughters, Katie, 1, and Annie, 2 months, when the horse became spooked and took off, causing the buggy to overturn.

One-year-old Katie was thrown from the buggy, causing head and internal injuries. Her 2-month-old sister sustained minor injuries as well.

Katie was flown from the scene to a hospital in Dayton, Ohio, with serious injuries. Her sister, Annie, was transported by ambulance to Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond. Neither Jacob nor Ruth was injured.

The incident occurred on the 8700 block of North Round Barn Road just before 6 p.m.
