Okla. FF killed during floodwater rescue

The firefighter was killed attempting to rescue another firefighter who had fallen into a flooded storm drain

CLAREMORE, Okla. — A Claremore firefighter’s body was recovered early Sunday after he was swept away while performing a water rescue.

Claremore Fire Chief Sean Douglas said the firefighter was attempting to rescue a fellow firefighter who had fallen into a flooded storm drain near Archer Court and Highway 20 just west of Claremore.

Douglas said one firefighter was able to make it out of the storm drain alive. He was taken to the hospital to be checked out. Douglas said the death is a tragic loss for the department and the city of Claremore. The body of the other firefighter was recovered around 1 a.m. His name has not been released.
