CANTON, Ohio — A medical examiner ruled the death of Canton firefighter-paramedic Tonya Johnson as a suicide Monday.

Johnson, 43, died on Feb. 22 when she was struck by a pickup truck after crossing a state highway during rush hour.

According to the Beacon Journal, police said Johnson was arguing with her husband in their vehicle on the side of the road when she exited the vehicle, crossed through northbound traffic and over onto southbound traffic, where she was struck and killed.

Officials said Johnson died from blunt force trauma to the head and died at the scene before police arrived.

Johnson worked at the Canton Fire Department for 18 years and is survived by her three children.
