EMT killed in ambulance collision; medic and patient still in hospital

Daniel Hampton, married and a father of four children, remembered as an outstanding firefighter/EMT

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas — Daniel Hampton, the Burnet County fire department FF/EMT killed in a Friday ambulance collision, is remembered as an outstanding member of the department.

Hampton was a well-liked member at Burnet County fire department where he worked part time.

“Outstanding firefighter/EMT. He worked for us, he also worked for Brady Fire Department. He was going to start full-time at Brady Fire Department. He was just offered a full-time position,” said Mark Ingram, Burnet Fire Chief during a Saturday morning news conference.

Hampton died after his ambulance collided with a semi Friday. The rear-end collision happened around 9:10 p.m. Paramedic Timothy Pierce, who was attending to a patient in the ambulance at time of the collision, was transported to a trauma center with serious injuries. As of late Saturday afternoon, Pierce had been moved out of the ICU and is recovering. The patient in the ambulance, who was in the process of being taken to a hospital at the time of the crash, is currently in critical condition.

“Our thoughts and prayers are all with the families that are affected by [Friday’s] events,” Ingram said.

Hampton is survived by his wife and four children, who range in age from 1- to 14-years-old.
