MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee firefighter suffered a graze wound after gunshots were fired at an ambulance.

According to a city news release, the fire department’s first responders were dispatched to help a patient who was having trouble breathing around 12:10 a.m. Monday. They were transferring the person to the ambulance when shots were fired in their direction.

A firefighter had a graze wound to the right side of his head and was taken to a hospital for treatment and was released.

In a statement, Fire Chief Mark Rohlfing said the shooting will heighten their awareness but won’t stop them from helping citizens. He also demanded a stop to gun violence in the city.
