A total of $9,240 should have been collected from the classes, but only $2,980 was recorded

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A former area volunteer firefighter has been accused of keeping several thousand dollars in CPR class fees.

Robert A. Grayless, 50, of New Haven was charged Wednesday with two counts of theft. He taught CPR classes at the St. Joseph Township Fire Department from June 2013 through December 2014, and he is accused of not turning in all the fees collected for the classes, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case.

The investigation began after the fire department’s chief noticed discrepancies between how much money was received from a CPR class in December 2014 and how many people were in attendance.
