BARNEVELD, N.Y. — Three towns recently signed an agreement to streamline their ambulance services in an effort to keep them up and running.
WKTV reported that officials from Remsen, Steuben and Trenton met at the Trenton Municipal Center and signed a three-year contract with Prospect Ambulance that allows them to form a district.
The district formation means that Prospect Ambulance will have money coming in consistently by becoming part of the tax line.
“Two years ago we lost $16,000 and last year we made $4,000, and even making $4,000 it’s not enough to advance in our equipment,” Prospect Ambulance president Scott Kahl said. “An ambulance these days is $150,000, a cardiac monitor is $38,000 and you can’t buy that stuff making $4,000 a year.”
Kahl said residents will pay around $20 more to help with funding for the services, which he said is a great help considering that they’ve been raising money to keep things running.
