HURLEY, N.Y. — A 43-year-old paramedic who was seriously injured in a head-on crash in May got a surprise welcome-home caravan to escort him to his home in Hurley after a lengthy hospital stay, according to his company, Mobile Life Support Services.

Bill Spadafora of 191 Russell Road, Hurley, suffered multiple injuries when the ambulance he was driving May 18 was involved in a collision with a pickup truck on state Route 32 near the Ulster-Rosendale town line, according to the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office.

There were no patients in the ambulance at the time, and the vehicle was not on an emergency call, authorities said.
