NORTH PEKIN, Ill. — An autopsy is scheduled for Monday for a central Illinois taxi cab driver killed in a collision with an ambulance.
Authorities say 48-year-old Mary Heath of Pekin pulled her cab out in front of the ambulance in North Pekin early Saturday and was hit. She was taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead about an hour after the crash.
Officials say three occupants of the ambulance were treated for minor injuries and released. None of them were patients.
The operator of the ambulance company says the vehicle was not on call during the accident and its emergency lights and sirens weren’t on.
North Pekin police and the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Department are investigating the cause of the crash.
