EDINBURGH, Scotland — The People for Ethical Treatment of Animals is pitching a plan to the Scottish Ambulance Service asking for a free ad on their ambulances touting the value of a vegan diet.
The group came up with the idea after it learned that the ambulance service was buying new equipment to accommodate larger patients.
The nonprofit animal welfare organization said it’s a “win-win situation.” The “win” for the ambulance service would be lighter patients, PETA says.
“Potential patients will get the point that a vegan diet is better for their health, and Scottish ambulance services will avoid the additional financial strain of buying equipment for bigger patients,” PETA Campaign Coordinator Kirsty Henderson said.
The ads would feature a nurse and read, “Lighten your load – go vegan. Vegans are 10 to 20 pounds slimmer than meat-eaters.”
The ambulance company didn’t immediately comment on the proposal.
