CONCORD, N.H. — Police believe a man accidentally shot himself in the knee while possibly sleepwalking.

“We don’t know for certain that’s what happened but that’s one of the possibilities,” Lt. Timothy O’Malley said of the shooting around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at a home on Wilfred Avenue.

Police withheld the name and address of the victim because no charges were pending and the investigation was ongoing.

O’Malley said the man’s injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

A relative who called police told investigators that she believed he was sleepwalking when he shot himself in the left knee with a handgun, O’Malley said.

O’Malley said investigators were trying to determine whether the gun had been secure and other details in the shooting, which was being considered an accident.
