TORONTO — After nearly two decades, Toronto Emergency Medical Services is changing its name to Toronto Paramedic Services to help the public better understand the training of EMS providers responding to medical emergencies.
“The role that we perform has evolved,” spokeswoman Kim McKinnon told the National Post. “Before, the key role was to provide some first-aid and transport quickly to hospital. Now, they’re an extension of the emergency room.”
The name change goes into effect on Oct. 1.
