GREATER MANCHESTER, England — A dad who almost died when his heart stopped was saved by an old friend he had not seen for 30 years.
William Coop, 46, collapsed from a cardiac arrest in his living room in front of wife Susan who dialled 999. A paramedic and volunteer first aider fought for 40 minutes to resuscitate him and restart his heart.
When William finally recovered weeks later, he went to thank them – only to discover the volunteer was his old friend Simon Morrell. They had been close as teenagers but it had been so long Simon, 48, didn’t recognise him when he saved his life. William, a graphic designer, said: “When I heard Simon’s name I just couldn’t believe it. We’d been good pals but we drifted apart and lost touch.
