Firefighter who suffered heart attack released

Firefighter Frank Ryan suffered a heart attack while battling a fire and has been hospitalized since August

SAN JOSE, Calif. — A veteran Calif. firefighter who was hospitalized after suffering a heart attack while battling a three-alarm fire last month was released from the hospital Wednesday.

Firefighter Frank Ryan, 41, has been in the hospital since Aug. 30, after he collapsed while crews were starting to extinguish a church fire, according to the Mercury News.

Brought to the hospital in critical condition, Firefighter Ryan was always surrounded by fellow firefighters, who took shifts visiting the ICU waiting room.

Up until Firefighter Ryan’s release, at least 20 firefighters were rotating in and out of the waiting room at a given time. Off-duty firefighters even slept on cots.

Firefighters also raised funds to fly Firefighter Ryan’s five siblings to San Jose to be with him.
