Two people were hurt early Monday when an ambulance struck a disabled car on Interstate 690 in Geddes, police said.
Michael J. Petrivelli, 23, of Liverpool, crashed his 1997 Plymouth into a guardrail at 3:10 a.m., spun out and came to rest in one of the westbound lanes, Geddes police said. A short time later, a Greater Baldwinsville Ambulance Corps vehicle struck Petrivelli’s car, they said.
Petrivelli and the ambulance driver, Kristy L. Kennedy, 27, of Baldwinsville, were taken to local hospitals with what police described as minor injuries. There was no patient in the ambulance at the time of the crash. A second ambulance corps member who was riding in the passenger seat did not require medical treatment.
Kennedy was released from Crouse Hospital about 6 a.m. Monday after treatment for neck pain, said Randy Goodale, director of operations for the ambulance company.
Petrivelli was treated at University Hospital and released later in the morning, a nursing supervisor said.
Petrivelli was ticketed with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. Police said he told them he had fallen asleep while driving. They said alcohol did not seem to have been a factor in the crash.
Goodale said Kennedy and her crew mate were returning to Baldwinsville after leaving a patient at Crouse.
