PORTLAND, Ore. — The first responders who came to the aid of an officer shot during a traffic stop reunited at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland on Thursday.
Lincoln City Police Sgt. Randy Weaver met with the EMTs who were also called to the shooting scene Sunday night on Highway 101 after Officer Steve Dodds was critically injured.
They discussed the stress they felt that night and the strength it took for Dodds to make his own officer-down call.
“Steve was just a trooper. He got out, ‘It’s a green SUV. It’s got a temporary plate,’” Weaver says.
The medical team shared a sense of optimism knowing that Dodds is likely to recover from his wounds.
So far, Dodds has undergone two surgeries and he will likely need another.
The man accused of shooting Dodds is still at large.
