NJ beach patrol medic found dead

The body of Brett Fitzpatrick, 26, was found at the water’s edge by two people passing by; the cause of death is under investigation

AVALON, N.J. — Police are investigating the death of 26-year-old paramedic Brett Fitzpatrick, a member of the Avalon Rescue Squad EMT and Beach Patrol, whose body was found on the beach by two people walking Wednesday morning.

Fitzpatrick, a resident of Ocean City, joined the beach patrol as a medic in 2009. His colleague Matt Wolf told the Press of Atlantic City that the rescue community is struggling with the loss.

The cause of death is under investigation. Avaolon Police and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office are conducting a joint investigation and an autopsy is expected to be performed soon. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
