3 dead from CO poisoning in Detroit

The Associated Press

DETROIT — The bodies of three men were found Sunday morning in a furniture resale shop in an apparent case of carbon monoxide poisoning, police said.

Two generators had been running, police spokesman James Tate said.

A friend of the shop’s owner discovered the bodies of Patrick Kulczyk, Michael Johnson and Ladell Brooks, all in their 50s, The Detroit News reported.

Susan Kulczyk, sister of Patrick Kulczyk, told the newspaper that the men were watching the shop for the owner, who had been found unconscious there and was hospitalized at Sinai-Grace Hospital.

Police were investigating and didn’t have any additional information, Tate said.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas that can cause sickness or death. Leaks in buildings typically come from furnaces, heaters or gasoline-powered equipment.
