ROCKFORD, Ill. — Rockford residents are being invited to two public meetings in the coming weeks to hear from six ambulance companies that submitted business information to the city last month.
The city is in the process of exploring a number of outsourcing opportunities as a means to save money. Using private ambulances companies more to either replace or supplement Rockford Fire Department paramedics is one area being explored.
“Ultimately, it will be up to City Council how we proceed,” City Administrator Jim Ryan said. “It’s important to gather this information and important to hear from the companies. There’s real value in understanding how it might work in Rockford.”
