MONROE, N.C. — A S.C. EMT has been killed after an ambulance and tractor trailer collided in front of a hospital Tuesday morning.
EMT Belinda Gayle Rivers, 43, was in a Sandhills Ambulance Service ambulance out of South Carolina on the way to the hospital to pick up a patient when the crash occurred, according to WBTV.
Wallace Kenneth Murphy Jr. was driving on U.S. 74 when he crashed into the ambulance.
The ambulance flipped on its side, and the 18-wheel tractor trailer swerved off the road.
Sandhills officials say Rivers was sitting in the passenger seat. The driver, Jonathan Cory Brown, survived and is being treated for his injuries. WCNC reports that he is in good condition.
Murphy was uninjured.
No patient was on board during the crash.
Police say they are still investigating the cause of the crash and are questioning witnesses. No charges have been filed at this time.
