Rio de Janeiro — An ambulance broke down after its crew responded to an injury on field during a Brazilian soccer match.

SAMAA reported that Vasco da Gama player Bruno Silva lost consciousness after a head-on collision during the game against Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday. An ambulance was called to the scene and paramedics loaded Silva inside, but then the rig refused to start.

Players from both sides assisted in giving the ambulance a push-start to get it off the field.

“It’s the first time I’ve seen that,” Réver, a Flamengo defender, said in an interview. “It’s a lamentable scene. I thought the driver was kidding, but he insisted the ambulance wouldn’t start and asked for our help.”
