AURORA, Ill. —The driver of a minivan that was involved in an ambulance crash was charged.

ABC7 reported that the driver was charged with failing to yield at a stop sign after an ambulance crashed into the minivan, resulting in the injuries of 11 people, including six children.

Police said the driver did not see the stop sign before the van was T-boned by the ambulance that was transporting a patient with its lights and sirens activated.

The driver was also fined for not properly securing a child in a restraint seat.

“It was really loud. It was a quick one-second siren and then a bang. And it just startled all of us,” witness Rick Cotts said.

Surveillance footage from nearby home devices showed bystanders rushing to aid the victims.

“The youngest one, he was laying down on the floor. Paramedics were trying to help him but he wouldn’t respond, so they right away called an ambulance,” witness Arelli Saldivar said.

A 1-year-old boy and a 12-year-old boy suffered serious head wounds, according to police. Their conditions were upgraded to stable, and everyone else has been released from the hospital.

The paramedics and the patient they were transporting were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
