GLEN CARBON, Ill. — A Glen Carbon ambulance was involved in a serious crash Wednesday morning.
Fire Chief Ralph Well said the ambulance was stopped at a traffic signal on Illinois 159 at Glen Carbon Road when it was struck from the rear at about 10:15 a.m.
A second car then collided with the ambulance and the first car.
“There is some pretty serious damage to the back of the ambulance,” Well said. “It’s going to be out of service for a while.”
Two of the three members of the ambulance crew were taken to an area hospital to be checked out, according to Well. Two people from the cars involved in the crash were also taken to an area hospital. Information about their injuries was not immediately available.
There was not a patient in the ambulance at the time of the crash, and it was not on an emergency run.
Well was unable to give a dollar estimate on the damage. He said the village has two other working ambulances that are still in service to handle the needs of the community.
Glen Carbon Police were investigating the crash. As of midday Wednesday, no tickets had been issued.
