BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The family of a woman who was killed in a medical helicopter crash has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the agency.
Kathryn Ann Brown, 40, was airlifted to a hospital in December 2015 for head, shoulder and arm pain; the helicopter crashed 20 minutes after departure, reported Bakersfield Now.
The pilot, nurse and paramedic who were on board also died.
The lawsuit, filed by Brown’s parents, alleges Rogers Helicopters operated and maintained their air ambulance with negligence.
“It is so tragic that a precautionary medical flight such as this, ended with the loss of so many lives. A thorough investigation and understanding of circumstances should result in the increased safety for future patients and crew of med-flight helicopters,” Timothy Loranger, the Brown family’s attorney, stated in a news release.
Brown’s parents are seeking compensation for medical bills, funeral costs and damages suffered over her death, reported 23 ABC Bakersfield.
The National Transportation Safety Board is still investigating the cause of the crash.
