MARICOPA, Ariz. — Police officers responding to a 911 hang-up call shot and killed a 32-year-old military veteran who suffered from PTSD.
They responded Sunday around 2:20 p.m. to a home in Cobblestone Farms subdivision, and shot Johnathan Guillory after a confrontation, AZfamily.com and The Arizona Republic report.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers felt threatened by Guillory and fired at the man, one with a handgun and the other with a rifle, about two minutes after making contact. Maricopa Police spokesman Ricardo Alvarado said officers believed the man was carrying a weapon of some sort, but did not provide any additional details.
Guillory’s widow said he struggled for years with post-traumatic stress brought on by a combat deployment in Iraq and time as a contract worker in Afghanistan.
The incident is being investigated by the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
