OCEAN CITY, Md. — A child was ejected from a vehicle and into the water during a multivehicle crash on the Route 90 bridge in Ocean City on Sunday afternoon, the town’s fire department said. At least eight people were injured.

First responders were dispatched to the scene at 2:47 p.m. and found one vehicle hanging off the side of the bridge, according to a Facebook post from the Ocean City Fire Department.

Four vehicles were involved, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation.

“During the collision, a pediatric patient was ejected from the car teetering over the guardrail and landed in the Assawoman Bay,” the Ocean City Fire Department wrote in a Facebook post. “A good Samaritan immediately jumped over the guardrail and into the bay, rescuing the infant.”

Firefighters secured the vehicle, while paramedics treated multiple “priority” patients. Seven patients were transported by ground to various hospitals, while the pediatric patient was flown to John Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore, according to the fire department.

Route 90 was closed between Coastal Highway and Route 589 until about 9 p.m. Sunday.
