BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A woman accused of firing a gun inside an ambulance before driving away in the rescue vehicle faces charges of attempted murder and theft.

Al.com reports that Birmingham paramedics responding to a call of a woman feeling dizzy picked up 41-year-old Geneen Richard Saturday morning at the airport. During the ride, authorities say she pulled out a gun and fired three times.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Chief Charles Gordon says one paramedic jumped from the vehicle before the driver pulled over and got out.

Police say Richard then got behind the wheel and drove off. Police later stopped the vehicle and arrested her.

The paramedics had minor injuries.

Authorities say they don’t know why Richard fired. It’s not clear if Richard has an attorney to comment on the charges.
