LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich. — A man is in critical condition after he was trapped under a tractor for two hours in Livingston County.

Police were called around 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, after an 84-year-old man was discovered trapped under a large farm tractor on Steinacker Road in Cohoctah Township, said Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murphy in a release.

The man had been performing maintenance on the tractor, which was left in gear when the starter engaged and it unexpectedly moved, police said. The man was trapped under the tractor for roughly two hours before he was discovered.

The man’s wife discovered the incident when she went to check on him, police said.

The man was extricated by the Howell Area Fire Department and taken by helicopter to the University of Michigan Hospital in critical condition.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Livingston County EMS, Howell Area Fire Department and Michigan Medicine Survival Flight.

The incident remains under investigation.
