CHICAGO — A Chicago man being transported to the hospital died after he jumped out of the moving ambulance.
Ramiro Reynoso, 20, was seen by bystanders Sunday sitting in his parked running car, reportedly acting incoherent, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Reynoso was strapped to a stretcher and being tended to by medic when he said he wanted to vomit. The medic reportedly unbuckled the top strap so Reynoso could sit up, but he was also able to unstrap his legs. He opened the back door of the ambulance and jumped out after freeing himself. He hit the street and suffered severe head trauma.
“At any rate, this is a tragedy. We don’t like to lose patients for any reason whether it’s their actions or anyone else’s,’’ Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said.
The fire department and police are investigating the incident.
