WEST, TEXAS — A West man has been arrested early Friday morning for possessing a destructive device.

CBSDFW reported that Bryce Ashley Reed, 31, a West volunteer EMT, is set to appear in a federal court in Waco at 10:15 a.m. Friday morning.

Bryce Reed was very close to Cyrus Reed, a volunteer firefighter who died in the fertilizer plant explosion, and he considered himself a brother to Cyrus though they were not actually siblings, according to the report.

Authorities previously said that the deadly blast was not a criminal act or an act of terrorism, however, it is unclear if police believe that Reed may now be connected to the West explosion, according to the report.

“This disaster has severely impacted the community of West,” said Texas DPS director Steven McCraw in a Friday morning statement, “and we want to ensure that no stone goes unturned and that all the facts related to this incident are uncovered.”

Court documents detailing Reed’s arrest will be made public during his court appearance.

Officials said there is no indication that Reed was connected to the deadly fertilizer plant explosion and McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara told News Ten Friday that Reed’s arrest has nothing to do with the April 17 blast.
