MARION, Va. — A Virginia firefighter-EMT died Wednesday after being found unresponsive during a fire.

Adwolfe Volunteer Fire Department Firefighter-EMT Charles C. “Dog” Woods, 58, had just filled a tanker during the residential fire in Marion early Wednesday morning when he was found unresponsive in the apparatus, according to a department press release.

Life-saving efforts were immediately initiated by Marion Fire/EMS members and other personnel at the scene. Woods was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead about 45 minutes after first being found unresponsive.

Woods served as a volunteer firefighter-EMT for 34 years and is survived by his wife and two sons, who are both also firefighters.

Woods was also a member of the Marion Life Saving Crew for several years and was a member of the Bristol Motor Speedway fire team, according to his obituary. His funeral will be held on Saturday, Sept. 26.
