Vanderbilt LifeFlight identifies medics in fatal Tenn. medical helicopter crash

Flight Nurse/Paramedic Allan Williams was killed, while Paramedic Andrew Sikes and the pilot remain hospitalized

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Vanderbilt University Medical Center has identified two of the LifeFlight crewmembers involved in a helicopter crash that left one dead and two critically injured.

Flight Nurse/Paramedic Allan Williams was killed in the Nov. 8 crash. Critical Care Flight Paramedic Andrew “Andy” Sikes and the aircraft’s pilot, who is not being publicly named at the family’s request, were seriously injured and remain hospitalized at Vanderbilt, The Tennessean reported.

Williams, stationed at the Gallatin base, marked 15 years with Vanderbilt University Medical Center in September, FOX 17 WZTV reported. In addition to transporting and caring for patients, he served on the event medicine team and helped coordinate helicopter safety training.

“As we grieve with Allan’s family, I ask you to please join me in support of them as well as Andy, the pilot and their families,” VUMC Deputy CEO/Chief Health System Officer Jane Freedman said in a statement.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause of the crash.
