The Vanderbilt LifeFlight helicopter with a crew of three crashed in Wilson County

WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. — One crew member died and two others were critically injured when a LifeFlight helicopter crashed in Wilson County on Nov. 8, Vanderbilt University Medical Center said.

The aircraft was carrying three crew members and no patients at the time, WSMV reported. Vanderbilt said it has notified families and is coordinating with authorities as the investigation begins.

Wilson County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Scott Moore told WSMV that the helicopter went down around 2 p.m. Saturday in the 7100 block of Cairo Bend Road.

“Vanderbilt University Medical Center is deeply saddened to confirm that a Vanderbilt LifeFlight helicopter was involved in an accident this afternoon in Wilson County,” the medical center said on social media. “Three crew members were on board. Tragically, one crew member lost their life and two others are in critical condition and receiving care at Vanderbilt University Hospital.”

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the cause of the crash.
