LODD: N.C. paramedic killed in ambulance crash

A Cleveland County paramedic was killed after a speeding driver rear-ended an ambulance

CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — A Cleveland County paramedic was killed after an ambulance was struck from behind in a crash on Highway 74 in Gaston County.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the crash happened just after 8 a.m. near Interstate 85 on July 6. Troopers told WSOC a Dodge Challenger was speeding when it rear-ended the moving ambulance, causing it to crash.

Gaston County authorities said a first responder was ejected from the ambulance.

Another EMS provider and a patient were inside the ambulance at the time of the crash. There was no specific report on their injuries.

The driver of the Challenger was taken to CaroMont Health with non-life-threatening injuries. Charges are pending.
