ORLANDO — A paramedic offered a stranded family a place to stay after their RV was destroyed in a fire during a family trip from Miami to Virginia.
WFTV reported that Orlando Fire Department paramedic Scott Butschek responded to an RV fire at a U-Haul store. The family of eight had stopped to fill up a propane tank when the fire began .
Everyone escaped unharmed, but the RV was destroyed and they had nowhere to go for Christmas.
Butschek says when he learned the family had no place to stay, he invited them to stay with his family.
“We’re all family at the end of the day,” Butschek said. “My home’s open right now. It’s Christmastime. It’s got plenty of room and it’s a nice thing to do.”
Instead of taking Butschek up on his offer, the family opted to accept accommodations provided by the Orlando Fire Department, Red Cross and U-Haul.
