NEW YORK — Two FDNY EMTs rescued two people on Tuesday after spotting a house fire before the residents were aware of it.

FDNY EMTs Joseph Cuello and Kevin Steinle from EMS Station 50 happened upon the scene of the blaze, which was burning on an upper floor of the private residence, according to an FDNY statement. The EMTs forced their way through the front door and assisted residents to safety before other units arrived.

The occupants, who were in the basement and on the first floor of the residence, had not realized the upper floor was on fire, according to the FDNY.

The department praised the EMTs for their “quick-thinking and courageous actions” after spotting the fire.

Firefighters later extinguished the blaze, and no one was injured in the incident.
