Off-duty firefighter revives 4-year-old at pool

The girl was stabilized at the pool before being taken to the hospital

TONGANOXIE, Kan. — Tonganoxie police are calling it a "near-drowning."

An off-duty Shawnee firefighter was at the Tonganoxie Water Park Monday afternoon, when a 4-year-old girl was pulled from the pool.

The little girl was not breathing, so the firefighter, helped by off-duty nurse Lorelei Witt, cleared water from her lungs, then administered CPR. After they got her breathing again, she was taken to the hospital.
