CHICAGO — September is National Preparedness Month and the City of Chicago, in partnership with the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC), is installing bleeding control kits at city facilities.
The wall-mounted kits are part of the city’s new public safety program, Safe Chicago, and will be placed in 269 publicly accessible buildings, according to a press release. The kits can treat up to eight victims, and includes:
- A tourniquet
- Gauze
- Shears
- Gloves
- Instruction manual
“OEMC takes steps every day to plan and keep Chicago residents and visitors safe,” said Rich Guidice, executive director of OEMC. “During National Preparedness Month, we are introducing Safe Chicago to provide Bleeding Control Kits to be utilized in an emergency to help save lives throughout the City. We also want to encourage everyone to recognize that disasters and emergencies can happen at any time and being prepared can be the difference between life and death.”
