Man tries to steal ambulance with patient, crew inside

Crews said they were treating a patient in the back of an ambulance when the man jumped into the driver’s seat

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Police arrested a man after he attempted to steal an ambulance with EMS providers and a patient inside.

Crews said they were treating a patient in the back of an ambulance when Devon Anderson, 36, jumped into the driver’s seat and began driving the vehicle, reported WKBN. EMS providers told Anderson to stop the vehicle, which then prompted him to park the ambulance and flee on foot. He and two other men were arrested shortly after.

Officials said Anderson initially went into the back of the ambulance to find pills, but has continued to change his story.

The two men Anderson was seen fleeing with denied witnessing him trying to steal the ambulance. They were late released.

Anderson was charged with attempted motor vehicle theft and booked into jail.
