NEW CITY, N.Y. — When paramedic Walter Dusseldorp appears at the scene of an emergency — and he’s been showing up for some 20 years — it’s strictly business, nothing personal.
It’s just the nature of the job when you’re constantly treating people who are injured in accidents, having heart attacks or seriously ill.
“We always kid around that paramedics only care for about 30 minutes at a time,” said Dusseldorp, who works with Rockland Paramedic Services. “We never get to see patients, follow up with them and develop a bond. Usually we only know their first name.”
